Studio Policies

Private Lessons:

Private lessons are either 30, 45, or 60 minutes in length and are held weekly at the student’s scheduled time.

Semi Private Lessons:

Semi private lessons are 60 minutes in length and held weekly.  Semi private lessons consist of 2 students who attend  a one hour lesson.  Each student receives 30 minutes of one on one instruction and 30 minutes of technology lab time.  The technology lab includes software to reinforce theory concepts, ear training, composition, and sight reading skills.

Group Lessons:

Group lessons are comprised of 3-4 students meeting weekly for a one hour piano class.  The class includes group instruction, one on one instruction, and group games to teach  theory concepts.  The games help students experience music theory in a fun way.  Students also play ensemble music and perform for each other, adding an important experience to their musical education.

Practice:

Students are expected to practice a minimum of 3-4 hours per week. I recommend practicing 30-45 minutes 6 days per week. It is helpful to develop a routine of practicing at the same time each day.

Lesson Fees:

Fees, payable in advance of lessons, are to be paid during the first week, for the entire month. A late charge of $10.00 will be assessed if fees are not paid within the first seven days of the month. Students are allowed two vacation credits throughout the year. Make check payable to Carol Smith.  Please give 30 days notice prior to terminating lessons in order to allow time to fill the vacancy.

Please call or email for tuition rates.

Enrichment Classes:

Music enrichment classes are offered periodically. These include performance, theory games, and composition group courses.  Two to three times per year, classes will be offered in lieu of a private lesson for the week. Several classes are offered to accommodate busy family schedules.

Missed Lessons:

Students will not be charged for using two vacation credits during the year for cancelled lessons. If you wish to cancel a lesson, please call at least 24 hours prior to the lesson. Any other missed lessons will be made up at the teacher’s discretion, depending on the student’s need and time available. If a student cannot attend the lesson due to illness, please contact me by noon of the day of the lesson.

Drop off and pick up:

Please arrive promptly at your designated lesson time.  It is extremely important that your children not be dropped off early or picked up late from lessons.  Due to my ever-changing schedule, I am unable to ensure that I will always be home should students arrive early or be picked up late.  Your child’s welfare and safety are my biggest concerns with this issue.
